ALARM BELLS

Three monthes to go to the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The UN Secretary General, Mr Banki Moon and scientists are keeping their breath; shall we design a new climate regime and seal the deal?

Sea rising, widespread droughts and food shortages, weather related natural disasters, declining fish stocks, mass migrations, melting glaciers, monster forest fires, failed states and conflicts. What else?

The alarm bells are heard better than before. The stage is set.

Authoritative scientists claim that our planetary civilization is sailing into a perfect storm. Under the scenarios of global warming, a 50% increase in demand for energy and food by 2030 collides with the declining supply of natural ressources, notably land and water . Financial ressources needed to cope with mitigation of and adaptation to climate change estimated at 400 billion $ /year will have to be extracted from economies facing daunting challenges.

Massive change is on its way and, at this momentous juncture in the journey of our race, modes of production and consumption will be thoroughly revisited. The great companies of the future are those who engage in long term strategic development, re-think the full range of their processes and products and find new ways to unleash the creative capacity of their staff, to do business, to establish partnerships in a sustainable manner adjusted to the bio capacity of the planet. The Climate Declaration of the UN Global Compact express specific commitments in this respect.

Deploying huge capital flows and the related need to unpack the levels of uncertainties linked to natural ressources scarcity in a context of climate change calls for enhanced ressources and risks management and scaling up capacities for making strategic choices. Moving to a carbon zero civilization cannot be achieved without some behavioural re engineering at all levels and thus the adaptive capacity of companies depend on their ultimate wealth, the people.

Real societal change is unavoidable. Every effort must be made to implement a behavioural paradigme shift. Millions of educated social actors are aware of it.

But societal change is not possible without the institutional adaptability of government and business or without awareness raising of the people. And this, in turn, depends on the cognitive capacities of leaders, managers and people at all levels.

We, the sahaj sangha, have the key to this cognitive transformation.

We own the one key to open all the doors.

The one sword to cut all the knots.

We know the core response for coping with the numerous, imminent and grave challenges faced by the international community.

The point is not that we can. The point is that we are. We are the solution. But people don't know it. They don't know their immense potential, they don't know what or who they are. We only know what we own , what we have, because this is the era in which the accountants are ruling.

And yet,...

many among government, academia and business recognize today that we must chart our collective course in an enlightened evolutionary mode rather than throught violent revolutionary ruptures and catastrophic collapses.

The willingness to do with reduced prosperity and income levels in some parts of the world,...
the willingness to reduce vulnerability of people and eco systems in self interest, solidarity and compassion...
the willingness to implement equity based strategies of change for the foundation of green economics...

...all these gates to a new golden age can be opened with our key.

Can those who made the journey inside and reached the destination share this empowerment experience? Are they reaching out? Are they heard? Are they passing on the key? I mean, in a significant way.

I wish we could do better and I humbly pray we might. There is somehwere the desire and prayer, that we shall soon, all together, all those willing, take it up and move on .

There is somewhere the fantasy that people shall listen, they shall accept the awakening transformation, enter mental serenity and recognize they are so much more that they had hoped for in their wildest dreams, so much to enjoy and so many to love.

And we should listen now.
Now, the alarm bells!
Tommorrow the owling of the sirens.
The day after tommorrow?
